After the Pellet Mill: Coolers, Screens and Magnets in a Feed Line

Why a feed line does not end at the pellet mill: coordinate cooling, screening and magnets to protect product quality and equipment.

Pellets leaving the press are not ready for storage

Fresh feed pellets are hot and carry moisture added during conditioning and pelleting. FAO guidance explains that coolers pass air through pellets to remove heat and moisture before conveying and storage. Sending hot product into a bin can create condensation and caking and increase spoilage risk.

The feed pellet cooler

A feed pellet cooler must match pellet-mill output and peak flow. Compare retention time, bed distribution, airflow, dust collection and discharge control. UAE ambient air can be hot or humid, so no outlet-temperature promise is meaningful without its measurement conditions.

Screening sends fines to the right place

A sifter separates intact pellets from fines and oversize material. FAO references returning fines to pelleting, reducing waste and improving product consistency. Select screen area and motion for the line capacity, with safe access for cleaning and mesh replacement.

Magnets protect machinery and feed

Metal can arrive with ingredients or come from conveyors and maintenance. FAO recommends magnets above processing equipment and regular inspection and cleaning because tramp metal can damage mills and pellet presses, injure staff and contaminate product. A magnet complements incoming inspection and maintenance; it does not replace them.

Arrange the line around product condition

  1. Ingredient receiving and cleaning.
  2. Magnetic separation before sensitive machinery.
  3. Controlled grinding and mixing.
  4. Conditioning and pelleting.
  5. Cooling and moisture removal.
  6. Screening and controlled fines return.
  7. Transfer to finished-product bins or packing.

The exact layout changes with formula and building, but capacities must remain balanced. A small elevator or cooler after a large pellet mill will limit the whole line.

Mazraty post-pellet equipment

Review the feed pellet cooler, vibrating feed sieve and feed-line magnet. Send pellet output, formula type and site layout for an initial capacity comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can pellets be bagged directly from the press?

They should first reach a suitable heat and moisture condition for storage under the product quality plan.

Where should feed-line magnets be installed?

Use them at ingredient intake and before sensitive equipment, with safe inspection and cleaning points defined by the line design.

How do I size a cooler and sifter?

Use the pellet mill’s peak practical flow, product properties and operating schedule, with headroom for stable flow and maintenance.
